Started the day slightly early to Jerudong Park!
Jerodong is away from BSB, so it takes a while to get there with a direct public bus from the bus interchange at the city. The trouble is getting back =(
Jerudong Amusement Park was first opened in 1994, costed $1 billion dollars which is funded fully by the government. It is apparently one of the largest themepark in SEA. It was once filled with families and kids, who comes here for rides and concerts, where admission is free.
Probably due to lack of maintenance, the park is now empty and looks old and dusty. Admission is still free but during it's opening hours, people just have to pay a nominal fee for the rides.
Gimme free I also won't take a ride in that mountain behind... if it's still working.
I won't recommend a visit here at all unless there's transport to and fro. It was so scorching hot and we were trying to find a bus stop but to no avail. When we came, the public bus just stopped us somewhere outside the park. We walked towards the main road and found a bus stop just opposite a mosque but was told that bus stop doesn't bring us back to city or Empire Hotel (which looks quite nearby on the map). Lucky for us, we met some kind locals who offered to send us to Empire Hotel.
As the travel guide would say, you haven't seen Brunei until you visit the Empire Hotel and Country. Indeed it's true. The interior is huge with high ceilings and architecture and design fit for royalty.
There are hotel rooms just situated a stone throw away from the pools.
View of the beach.
This was a much more worthy place to visit as compared to Jerudong Park. This place is a hidden gem and a great place for a short getaway anytime. Besides the basic hotel facilities, the Empire also houses a golf course, bowling alley, tennis and other racket ball courts, and even a theatre if you are bored.
Another reason that makes this place a great destination? It's so peaceful and quiet as if the whole place belongs to you because there is almost no one here.
Took a lovely stroll here with D and I suddenly mention we should go east coast park soon since we like the sea breeze and all. D cringed as if saying, how can compare this place with ecp!?? Alright...
Took a cab back to BSB from here and it costs B$30!
This marks the end of my Brunei getaway. Nothing much to buy, just took home loads of pictures and a sunburnt self.
Till the next trip!
Love,
M
