Dian Xiao Er

After introducing D to Dian Xiao Er once at the airport outlet, he has been thinking about the duck all the while and couldn't wait to taste it again. So here we are again at the Tiong Bahru outlet!

We were walking by thinking of what to have for dinner and we saw that DXE was having a promo which allow you to get a mini abalone each for only $2 (if I didn't remember wrongly). So D was extremely excited, not just for the duck but for his other favourite, abalone.

Been to DXE many times and I always have a hard time choosing what flavoured duck I would like to have. Of course, life isn't that difficult with dad around cos we will pick a few flavours and he will have no issue with it as long as we can finish it all up!

This time, we were presented with set menus which I thought was a great idea! Save us the trouble of thinking and the menu was made in such a way that is suitable for 2 - 14 pax. A great place for couples, friends and even family gatherings! Besides, the abalone promo was only valid with the set menu.
You can view the menu on their website or here: http://www.dianxiaoer.com.sg/images/stories/menu/DXE_Set%20Menu_Feb2014.pdf

We chose the Abundance Set for 2 which was priced at $53 for 5 dishes. Superior Steamed Rice is the first dish, haha.

First real dish, is this Silver Cod Fish with Superior Soy Sauce. This unassuming plate of delicacy is crispy on the outside, smooth and soft on the inside, we love it! Besides, it's cod fish! Who doesn't like cod fish!?

Sauteed String Beans with XO Sauce. I loooooove string beans! Do they not sell this at the markets or is it difficult to buy or cook this? I seem to only be able to eat this outside, no one cooks it at home. Everytime I request for si ji dou, my mom will cook french beans or long beans instead -_-
You can pick either this or Imperial Treasures with Seasonal Vegetables.

Duck Roasted with Ten Wonder Herbs
This is definitely the highlight of the meal! Just look at the golden brown skin and the succulent drenched in the herb sauce. I could finish a bowl of rice with this sauce.

The promo baby abalone dish!
I am not an abalone person, but before I knew it, D swallowed his in one mouthful...
He said eat like that then shiok. Alrights.... in the end I tried a small slice and passed my abalone to him to his great delight. Haha.

Osmanthus Jelly Dessert
By the time the desert arrives, both of us were almost full to the brim already. Yes, it is really filling for us! This jelly is perfect after a full meal because it is so cooling, not too sweet and just right to end off a meal.

We will definitely be back!
