I bought a deal via Groupon at HighBrow as it was located at Star Vista, which was a stone throw away from my home. It was a $32 deal, instead of the usual $125 as stated on Groupon website. Do take note of fine prints when buying such deals. For this, $32 does not include an eye mask, which seems like a requirement during the procedure, as well as the removal, which will cost you an additional $20.

Once decided, my eye make-up was removed and the procedure starts with the eye mask placed on my undereye, which felt more like a tape than a mask as it was not even damp/wet like what other eye masks are. The skin above my eyes were taped up to keep my lids open so that it will be easier for the beautician to work on the lashes.
The chosen lashes are then stuck to my own lash, one by one. I am impressed because this method is cleaner and suitable for those with sensitive eyes since the glue will not be in contact with the skin. Also the lashes will seem more natural as it curl out seamlessly with my own lashes.

Just to take note, the glue can be stinging to the eyes so keep your eyes close at all times! I made a few attempts to take photos and hence felt the stinging sensation several times which caused me to tear. See the redness in my left eye.
After a few minutes of resting of the eyes, I was ready to open my eyes and welcome my new fluttering eye lashes. The whole process took around 30 mins.
I loved how they looked, long and curly yet not too dramatic for people to realised straightaway that I had extensions done. It felt really soft and natural as well!
How to care for your eyelash extensions
- Try not to let your eye lashes come in contact with water for the first 24 hours to allow the glue to stick the lash extensions to stick thoroughly. In order to be extra careful, I bathed with goggles on and stayed away for eye make-up for 3 days, though it is not required to do so.
- With long lashes, there is no need for mascara. Don't even try because that means you have to remove the mascara, where you may tug on the lashes and cause them to fall off together with your real lashes!
- Stay away from oil-based make-up remover
- Try your very best not to rub your eyes. Again, this will inevitably tug at the lashes causing them to fall off easily.
- Wash your face with care. Sometimes when I'm not careful, large droplets of water would fall on my lashes and if not dabbed away properly, will cause some of the lashes to go haywire.
Even by following the rules, some of the lashes still do fall out naturally and it is said to be normal. I had about 3-4 lashes on 2 of the days.
How long can eyelash extensions last?
According to the beautician and online reviews, these semi-permenant lashes can last between 4-6 weeks, with a touch up done after 2 weeks or so. For me, it lasted properly for no longer than 2 weeks. I thought I was very very careful with all the above do-nots but that didn't stop my lashes from becoming messy after a few days. I admit I accidentally rubbed my eyes at night twice, and got water droplets onto my eyes a few times but... these are things that I can't exactly prevent, so how?
Brought my lashes to Korea too and after some really strong wind at a mountain cliff where I can literally feel my lashes being blown at all directions like mad, I gave up and stop being overly-careful anymore. Unfortunately, some of the lashes are distorted upwards/downwards and I had to try my very best to rearrange them nicely to prevent myself from looking like I had odd lashes.
Eyelash removal process
Since I happened to be around Far East Plaza where there are many eyelash extension shops around, I decided to get my lashes removed at Milly's. Removal fee was only $15, cheaper than at High Brow. Eye make-up was removed and the removal glue was used to stick all the lashes upwards and left to dry. Again, although the beautician gave the green light to open my eyes, it stung after a while and I had to close my eyes again. After some time, the glue was wiped off and I had my original short and non-curly lashes back.
Is it worth doing eyelash extensions?
To be honest, I thought it was a waste of money unless you are attending some important dinner/event/gala or if your job requires you to be made-up everyday or for superficial reasons like wanting to look good everyday while overseas like I do. Otherwise it can be addictive and it is not exactly cheap without any deals/discounts used. I thought it was tedious taking care of the lashes too, having to wash my hair and face carefully every day, using cotton buds to remove my eye makeup and not being to enjoy the feeling of rubbing my eyes... It sucks when the lashes become messy too, and probably unable to withstand strong wind (take note if you will be going to such places), and you will have to make another visit to get them removed. A good mascara would probably do a good job too without that much of a hassle.
I also believe that with time, eyelash extensions will get cheaper, just like IPL, and then I can consider doing that more often. I wouldn't want to conclude that eyelash extensions are a definite no-no, but I would really like to try once more at another shop, probably Milly's, before having a good judgement of eyelash extensions.
Till then,
M
