Wedding Planning: Pre-Wedding Planning

When I was younger, I always dreamed about my ideal proposal and dream wedding. Now that I am older and moving into this phase, I realised it's not all about me, but US.

D is a shy and private person while I have no qualms about sharing my life with everyone. During our dating period, I told him about how I wanted my proposal to be a surprise with my friends and family around to witness the occasion. He freaked out, of course. The whole idea of a proposal is already scary enough, what's more the expectations of the girlfriend.

So, my point is, a wedding is between two persons, and it should be one that both are happy with. Definitely there will be times of conflicting interests, and that's where discussing, compromising and coming into a consensus is important.

Therefore, these are some questions we discussed before starting our errands in search for our wedding.

WHERE DO I WANT MY WEDDING TO BE HELD?
Though most chinese couples still go for hotel banquet style, many have also opt for a smaller scale restaurant/cafe setting. D and I preferred a more intimate and special setting, hence we decided to eliminate hotels as an option.  We also envisioned a more casual, rustic and outdoor feel. With that in mind, it makes the search for a venue much easier.

WHAT DO WE WANT FOR OUR WEDDING?
Colour theme, what type of decoration, customised wedding invites/door gifts, no. of guests, programme lineup and even type of wedding bands... Discussing about all these helps us get an idea of our likes and dislikes to prevent misunderstanding in the future.

WHAT'S OUR BUDGET?
It's always important to have a gauge on the amount required for the wedding. The last thing you want is to spent more than you have planned for, and have a huge debt falling onto your lap after the your big day. Take note of big ticket items like wedding venue, wedding bridal packages, pre-wedding and actual day photoshoot and videography. It may be difficult to budget initially, but it's always better to over-budget and underestimate. Last but not least, spend within your means!

Love,
M
