Places to Shop
For those who are interested in pocket-friendly shopping places, do visit the night markets at Hong Kong for some great buys. In the past, these markets were great to shop with cheap prices and open for bargaining. However, nowadays bargaining isn't that effective and prices are a little steep. Many stalls sell touristy items too and not to my likings. However, these places are usually bustling with people and a great place to be immerse into the Hong Kong night life.
- Ladies Market
- Fa Yuen Street: Besides the roadside stalls, there are also fashion streetwear shops along the streets and there can be some great buys when there's a sale going on! Bought some sweaters at relatively cheap prices at a shop which was having a sale. Too bad it was during winter period so most of the shops were selling winter wear and coats.
- Dragon Centre at Shum Shui Po: We wanted to take a walk along Shum Shui Po area, one of the poorer parts of Hong Kong, and came across Dragon Centre. It has many small shops cluttered together in a few levels. Similar to the small shops you can find in Bangkok Pratunum Market or a similar local example would be like Far East or Bugis Street shopping. There are many shops with box spaces (i.e. Toy Outpost, Box Boss, etc) which sells quirky items at affordable prices. I managed to purchase 2 cardigans at SGD$7 each only!
Another thing you can do there is to get a good and cheap massage. 45 min leg massage or 30 min neck and shoulder massage cost about SGD$20 only.
Besides that, do take a walk along the streets to see the locals selling electronics and second hand items, similar to our Thieves' market.
Came across a wet market which opens even late in the evening!
- Mongkok area
Shopping Malls
Like Singapore, Hong Kong is a shopping haven too. That said, with more international brands entering Singapore, there is no need to waste time in malls overseas. However, if you ever want to, here are some big malls to check out:
IFC Shopping Centre, Central
Times Square, Causeway Bay
Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui
Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong
Goodies to buy:
Kee Wah

I never leave Hong Kong without some biscuits from Kee Wah Bakery. My favourites are the egg rolls, butterfly cookies (flaky cookies), tea biscuits and walnut cookies.
They are also well-known for their wife cakes (winter melon paste).
They come in nice packaging which is great as gifts too.
Wing Wah

Another well-known bakery where you can get your goodies is Wing Wah. I'm so comfortable with Kee Wah so I have not really tried from here yet, but will definitely want to if I ever do visit Hong Kong again!
